Back to school: Classroom Decor

It’s that time of year again! Yep you guessed it, back to school. We have 4 unique classroom decor ideas that are sure to encourage a more exciting school year! As we know all too well, sitting in a traditional classroom setting can be kind of a drag. The white walls, the single desk chairs all facing the board, the cliche pencil and apple decor. Yawn. Teachers may be racking their brains to find new ways to decorate their classrooms, well look no further!

1. Incorporating a theme into the classroom decor can be a fun and creative way to keep students entertained. It’s no surprise that there always seems to be blues and greens in schools. These colors have a calming effect and represent nature. So adding these in some way can help students refocus if they’re searching for hope during an exam. One teacher used plastic blue and green table cloth to represent seaweed on the windows.

2. Another way to keep the classroom interesting is by a little rearranging of the furniture. Moving furniture can create the illusions that you’re in a whole new space. This is my personal favorite for when I’m in the mood for something new, but can’t really afford to buy something new. For a classroom, this can be very beneficial especially since were so used to the traditional layout of a classroom. Interior designers specialize in maximizing the use of the space they are given. Teacher can be their own interior designers by doing simple rearranging! Try turning desks towards each other to encourage group discussions!

3. Plants, plants, plants! Myself along with my friends have a newly found green thumb. We might not be the best plant parents, BUT they do add a great pop of color for any room. Plants in a classroom can create a calming effect with colors as well as a fun activity for students to take care of. There are so many plants that are low maintenance like succulents. They can be used as decoration and a pop of color!

4. Lastly, encouraging words can be a cute way to decorate and motivate. There are several wall decals that can easily be taken off when the school year is over. Sometimes we all need a little encouragement and what better place to get it than a classroom! Depending on the theme you’re going for, there are gold and glittery ones or simple black ones.

So if you are an interior designer of the classroom, also known as a teacher, let us know if you try any of these tips out! Be sure to check out our instagram @satinandslate and twitter @satinslate. Until next time!
